Horkesley ParkBuilding on the traditions of the past we aim to bring those traditions to a wider audience through Horkesley Park. Horkesley Park, a celebration of the English countryside - not a museum or an exhibition dedicated solely to the past, but a vibrant and informative Heritage and Conservation Centre where the past, present and future converge
to provide a wonderful visitor experience for people of all ages and provide a venue that Colchester can be proud of. A key feature of Horkesley Park will be a Suffolk “Punch” Horse breeding centre, helping to save this critically endangered species from extinction. There are presently only 370 of the breed left worldwide, and only
some 70 or so breeding mares. Other features will include an art gallery, farm barn, underground nature watch, a “food experience”, stunning formal gardens, informal woodland and open trails, indoor exhibition areas, conservation workshops and much
more to make for a relaxing day out for families and opening up this area of the countryside for everyone. Horkesley Park will be established on brownfield land at Great Horkesley, where our redundant glasshouses and buildings presently stand. Great care is going into formulating our plans to ensure that Horkesley Park will be sustainable for the long term, both ecologically and economically and we will update this page from time to time as our plans
progress. Horkesley Park has its own web site at www.horkesleypark.co.uk. |
