Anchor Inn

The Anchor Inn is in the picturesque village of Nayland, nestled on the banks of the River Stour – a perfect and tranquil setting for a fantastic culinary experience. 

The  pub historically marks the mid-way part of navigation on the River Stour and has a colourful history – being the last place in England from which the press gangs operated so legend has it!

The 15th Century pub is a haven for food lovers.  Carl Shillingford (formally of the Waterside and Pierre Gagnaire in Paris, both 3* Michelin restaurants) leads the kitchen team.

At the Anchor there is complete synergy between the farm field.  We  have created our own Heritage Farm and “kitchen garden” to provide delicious fresh food ingredients with fantastic flavour which inspires an outstanding menu.

Our aspiration is the simplicity of delivering food to the table from the land closest to it, but in a way that restores and conserves a natural working landscape.  Our visitors can therefore enjoy both our menus and the delightful setting.

The Anchor is the perfect location to relax, enjoy and indulge - for drinks, lunch or dinner - in the bar, upstairs in our stylish restaurant, or outside during finer weather
